Flyer announcing PhD and postdoctoral openings in the CQS group

Thanks to UMBC’s Physics Department and Cybersecurity Institute, I am now seeking exceptional candidates at the PhD and postdoctoral levels.

PhD candidates and exchange PhD students

Ideal candidates are expected to show a solid background in general physics, a broad interest in theoretical physics, and a passion for at least one of the group’s core areas of interest.

PhD students. Prospective graduate students interested in joining the group should follow the standard application process to be admitted to the UMBC Graduate School. Information about our graduate program can be found here. Once admitted, and after roughly one year of courses, they can choose a supervisor from the graduate faculty.

Exchange PhD students. External PhD students interested in spending time within the CQS group should contact PI Anza directly at fanza@umbc.edu. Funding is currently available, but the situation needs to be assessed case by case.

Postdoctoral researchers

Strong candidates must have a track record in two or more of the group’s core areas of interest. People interested should reach out to PI Anza at fanza@umbc.edu with an expression-of-interest email and be prepared to submit:

  • Academic curriculum
  • List of publications (can be included in the CV)
  • Cover letter (one page maximum) discussing why they are interested in the Complex Quantum Systems theme and/or the group’s core focus areas, and their past and current research
  • A list of two to three people, with contact information, willing to send reference letters
